Instituted in 1943 to mark the accession of Sultan Sir Badlishah, the 27th Sultan of Kedah, following the death of his father, Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah. Awarded to officials, dignitaries, and participants in the accession ceremonies, the medal recognizes their role in this historic event. Sultan Badlishah, who had served as regent of Kedah prior to his accession, was temporarily deposed during the Japanese occupation but reinstated in 1945, and continued to rule as Kedah became part of the Federation of Malaya and later independent Malaysia.
